Prepare Your Home For Winter!

Snow is just around the corner & these preventative steps are a great idea to do now before the cold weather arrives!

-THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR HOME-

1.  LANDSCAPING: Turn off the water & make sure to empty out your hoses. Clear away sticks and leaves and be sure to fertilize the lawn one more time before the snow hits.

2. PATIO FURNITURE: Clean your furniture with warm water & soap. Remove cushions & machine wash them if you can & store in the garage for the season. If you are keeping furniture outside, then invest in a breathable cover. Measure your furniture & take the dimensions to Home Depot, Lowes or Target where you can find reasonably priced covers.

3. CLEAN OUT YOUR GARAGE: Store gardening tools, planters and other summer items and take out your rake, shovel or any other winter necessities. Organize bikes, toys & any other summer gear that you will not be using for the season.

4.. GUTTERS: Clean your gutters and make sure there is no build up of leaves and debris. Clogged gutters block the drainage of rain or melting snow and can cause leaks in your home!

-THE INSIDE OF YOUR HOME-

1. PROGRAM YOUR THERMOSTAT: Use a programmable thermostat to help maintain a lower temperature during the day if you are not home. This will greatly reduce your heating bill.

2. REPLACE FILTERS: Change the filters in your furnace. Vacuum the dust and debris in the vents.

3. SEAL THE WINDOWS & DOORS: You want to keep heat in your home so, be sure to seal any cracks with caulk. This will also help to reduce your heating bill as well.

4. BUY A GREAT DOORMAT: Update your outside & inside doormats for your home. Target & World Market have some fun options if you want to spruce up your space!
